For as long as I can remember, I have wanted to help others. I would help my parents with my younger siblings, help classmates that were struggling with school work, and help my friends and community in any way I could. My parents instilled in me and my siblings the value of time and how to use our time to give back to the community. In high school, I joined groups that did service projects and worked towards improving our community. As senior year of high school came to a close, I knew that I wanted to go into a career that would continually help others grow and become the best version of themselves. After weighing my options and realizing my passion for working with children, it was an easy decision to go into elementary education.
After receiving the Royal Neighbors scholarship, a burden was lifted off my shoulders. I knew then, that I could achieve my dream of becoming a teacher. It wouldn’t have been possible for me to extend my education and attend college if it weren’t for the generosity of scholarship donors and organizations such as Royal Neighbors. Not only did I receive help financially through the gift of the scholarship, but through Royal Neighbors, I received a caring community that strives to positively impact the world. For this, I am eternally grateful.
Following the example of Royal Neighbors, I began to volunteer in my college community. When I wasn’t studying, I was joining clubs to improve campus, build community, and serve others. Along with these clubs, I began to volunteer through my church. I have volunteered for a program called Helping Hands, where we pack meals for people in need in West Africa. Another amazing opportunity I’ve had was going on a small mission trip to the Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota. We spent spring break helping community members with work they were struggling to complete on their own. It was a very rewarding experience to extend my ability to help others not just to my immediate community but outside to those in greater need.
As I reach the end of my college years and begin my teaching journey, I will forever be grateful for the support and encouragement from Royal Neighbors and everyone that has impacted my life thus far. I will continue to reach out and help build others up and, hopefully, make the world a better place.
