“Even during a pandemic, we can still make a difference,” said Kelly McLaughlin, Chapter 20178 Secretary-Treasurer. “Our commitment to our mission is unwavering.”
Women With Purpose, a nonprofit organization, decided to begin a Royal Neighbors Chapter in 2017 after their founder, Jane Morse-Swett, received a Nation of Neighbors℠ grant supporting their mission to help families impacted by cancer.
“It was the perfect choice to start a chapter with our organization,” said Jane, Chapter President. “It’s a great way for us to give where we live and increase the impact for cancer patients and families in our community.”
Women With Purpose hosts several fundraisers throughout the year to provide non-medical financial assistance for basic necessities by directly paying for rent, mortgages, utilities, gas and food cards, and car payments and insurance.
The Brunch with a Purpose fundraiser, typically held at a local Church, was canceled due to COVID-19. “I wasn’t going to allow a challenge to stand in the way of giving back, so I decided to host a small brunch at my home,” said Kelly. “My friends and neighbors joined me, and graciously purchased Thirty-One products from a local consultant.” Kelly used her hostess credits from the event to purchase 42 bags with the uplifting message, “love who you were born to be.”
Chapter members filled each “blessing bag” with comfort items such as water, snacks, word searches, hand lotion, and lip balm for patients receiving chemotherapy.
“Helping Cancer Families Every Day in Tampa Bay is our mission,” said Kelly. “We are continuing to look for creative ways to host fundraising events that are both safe and fun for our attendees.”
Women With Purpose hosts a Breast Cancer Fashion Show every October during Breast Cancer Awareness Month. This year, the event will be held virtually and will have an added opportunity for attendees to receive a discount at participating boutiques. “We have received amazing support from our community,” said Kelly. “Together, we will continue to make a difference for our community members no matter what challenge we face.”
