Food has always brought families together. Family memories are intertwined with shared meals, messes made, and the laughter and love that follows.
Sandi Schmidt has spent countless hours in the kitchen preparing meals for her family, but sometimes even the cook prefers a seat at the table. “I was looking for a breakfast dish that didn’t require me to spend the entire morning in the kitchen,” said Sandi. “This delicious French Toast Casserole allowed me to provide a memorable meal while still spending time with my family while it baked.”
Ingredients:
1 loaf (10 oz.) French Bread, cut into 1” cubes (10 cups)
8 eggs
3 cups milk
4 tsp. sugar
1 tsp. vanilla extract
Topping:
2 Tbsp. butter, cubed
3 Tbsp. sugar
2 tsp. ground cinnamon
Instructions:
Place bread cubes in greased 9×13 baking dish. In a mixing bowl, beat eggs, milk, sugar, and vanilla. Pour over bread. Cover and refrigerate overnight. Remove from refrigerator 30 minutes before baking. Dot with butter. Combine sugar and cinnamon; sprinkle over the top. Cover and bake at 350 degrees for 45-50 minutes, until a knife inserted near the center comes out clean. Let stand for 5 minutes. Serve with maple syrup.
