College is often seen as an investment in one’s future. Students attend classes, build relationships, and are pushed to a new level of academic rigor during their time in college. The education that we as students receive is truly invaluable; however, it is important to remember that education is pointless without using the lessons we learn to make an impact on the world around us.
The Royal Neighbors scholarship has helped me to focus not only on academics, but also on helping my community. For that, I am overwhelmingly grateful.
One way that I have been able to help my community has been through the Student Government Association of Oklahoma Baptist University. As a Class Senator and a member of SGA’s Volunteer Action Committee, I have been influential in organizing community service days. Students from across campus come together to volunteer at local businesses and non-profits like the Salvation Army, Boys and Girls Club, Hope House, and Cargo Ranch. All of these ministries focus on giving a helping hand to those who need it, whether it is providing food, life mentorship, or spiritual guidance. I have been blessed to be able to support these local ministries and have been regularly amazed by the heart for service so many men and women throughout my community display.
Another way that I have been able to challenge and aid my community is through leadership in Voice for the Voiceless —an organization dedicated to fighting human trafficking both locally and globally. Last year, I served as President and was in charge of organizing fundraisers and events that informed my campus about the reality of human trafficking and modern-day slavery. This role provided me with a platform to speak for those who can’t speak for themselves because they have been coerced and/or violently oppressed.
The Royal Neighbors scholarship has helped me to focus not only on academics, but also on helping my community. For that, I am overwhelmingly grateful.
Royal Neighbors has funded my education through its scholarship fund and given me the ability to focus on others rather than stress about paying my tuition. The support and encouragement from Royal Neighbors have pushed me to new heights in my education and in my community service. In May, I will be graduating summa cum laude from Oklahoma Baptist University with a bachelor’s degree in Biology and a 4.0 GPA. In August, I will begin my post-graduate education at the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine where I will study to become a physician. I look forward to using the many lessons that I have learned through my service and through classes to become a health-care professional that is ready and willing to make a positive impact on the world around me.
I am so grateful to Royal Neighbors for helping me pursue an education at Oklahoma Baptist University where I was able to use my talents and abilities to help others for the glory of God. Thank you, Royal Neighbors of America!
