Kristy Alexander was born and raised in Trinidad and Tobago. Her dream of starting a cosmetics company began when she was 15 years old while analyzing face powder in chemistry class. Kristy’s interest in organic ingredients began at an even earlier age. “My father had an organic garden,” said Kristy, “and my parents were both dedicated to using natural remedies.”
After graduating high school, Kristy received a scholarship to attend college in the United States. She spent over a decade in Industrial Engineering Management, and then on the heels of a promotion – Kristy decided to resign, sell her home, and take an 11-month mission trip to 11 countries. “I knew I wanted to do more with my career, so I packed my bags and began a life-changing journey,” said Kristy.
While in Thailand, Kristy worked with an organization to help women caught in human trafficking. “It was the first time human trafficking became real to me,” said Kristy. “Two of the victims I met are the inspiration behind my brand – Apple and Rose.” After returning from her mission trip, Kristy partnered with several chemistry companies to begin formulating all-natural beauty products, and Apple Rose Beauty was officially born.
Driven by a mission to provide freedom and opportunity for human trafficking survivors and support organizations involved in their rescue and rehabilitation, the beauty brand makes natural and organic skincare products that are sold in retail stores and online. Apple Rose Beauty currently employs two survivors and supports many other women through their work with nonprofit organizations they refer to as Freedom Partners.
In 2019, Royal Neighbors of America awarded Kristy, Apple Rose Beauty’s Founder and Chief Big Heart, a Nation of Neighbors℠ empowerment grant to employ women coming out of human trafficking, purchase inventory, and rent a space to make more natural beauty products. “When we received the grant, we just launched in Macy’s Department Stores in Atlanta,” said Kristy. “Since then, we’ve been able to expand into other stores and sell online with nationwide shipping.”
In 2020, the pandemic resulted in the cancellation of all in-person events and a 70% decrease in sales. Despite these challenges, Apple Rose Beauty mobilized their commitment to their cause by finding new and creative ways to connect with customers. Online courses, demonstrations, and consults were held to inspire uplifting discussions about beauty, skincare, wellness, and healthy living. “This year, we’ve focused on getting back on track and strengthening our relationship with our customers,” said Kristy. “It wouldn’t be possible without the support from Royal Neighbors.”
Staying true to her heart, Kristy is dedicated to ensuring Apple Rose Beauty leads with product quality with a clear connection to their cause. “Each product purchased provides an hour of work for each survivor,” said Kristy. “I want our customers to understand the importance of our mission and feel the heart behind the brand.”

Kristy considers her greatest success to be the opportunity to empower women by helping them realize their value. “I feel successful when our customers and the women we serve know how important they are to our world,” said Kristy. “There is great confidence and opportunity that comes from knowing your worth.”
Kristy’s dream is to sell her products internationally. “I want to be a global brand so we can promote healthy skincare worldwide, empower more women, and impact change for more victims of human trafficking,” said Kristy.
