This year marks the 125th anniversary of Royal Neighbors. Celebrating this milestone during the current pandemic has been bittersweet. But we are mindful that, even amidst the uncertainty and anxiety of these times, there is still good news to share. I hope this issue, which includes our 2019 Annual Report, offers some encouragement and an opportunity to find comfort in our on-going strength and history of overcoming adversity.
We had an outstanding year in 2019, exceeding our goals in both revenue and Social Good (how we measure our philanthropic impact). Both achievements are worthy of celebration.
Our successful business funds the mission. When you look at the numbers – revenue generation of over $180 million and over $1.1 billion in assets – it’s clear we are well-positioned not just to meet obligations to our membership but to continue to support their efforts to promote change at a grassroots level.
Last year’s Social Good result was particularly impressive, totaling more than $18 million. This number reflects the value of philanthropy programs, members’ savings on health, wellness and legal services, and the more than 275,000 hours of volunteer work completed by our members!
We were honored to present $100,000 in Nation of Neighbors℠ grants through our signature women’s empowerment program. Each recipient is making a difference in the lives of women and girls in her own way, through programs that support victims of human trafficking, homeless veterans, cancer survivors, and so many more.
We also issued nearly $175,000 in scholarships. In “Facing Forward,” you’ll find essays from Anthoney and Keegan Brown, brothers who each received a Royal Neighbors scholarship. Both illustrate our mission of striving to create positive impact, whether at home or at school.
Finally, we celebrate the amazing spirit of giving and endurance demonstrated by so many of our chapters through their efforts to support front-line workers and those at high risk in the battle against the COVID-19 virus. It’s been heartwarming to see how you’ve responded.
As always, I am humbled by your dedication and drive and believe it represents the very how and why our organization was formed over 125 years ago. I believe our founders would be proud of where we are today.
Stay safe and connected.
